(my bike has a backrest :)

I'm new to motorcycle riding and am taking a MSF course in a couple of weeks. I'd like to know your opinions on what is the best helmet for every day street riding because I'll most likely buy a small street bike if I can pass the MSF course.

Back in my scooter days (20 years ago), there was no helmet law so I've never been on a bike wearing a helmet and hope I don't find it too confining. Yeah, we were young and stupid back then. But, I'm willing to become accustomed to anything if it saves my little melon!

Thoughts or suggestions???

i drive a 1985 camaro right now and do all the auto work. its a bit challenging to me but i like it. now I'm looking into buying a bike probably a Suzuki street bike. if i were to buy one that needed a bit of work could i do it myself or is the work more challenging then my 85 camaro

Hey everyone, I need your help. I am looking to buy a motorcycle and have narrowed it down to two.

Background: I've never owned a street bike before, so I guess I would be considered a beginner. I'm a male, 5'6" 170lbs. Looking for something that I can cruise around town on at first, then take short day trips (no more than 50 or 60 miles).

Choice #1: A 1982 Suzuki GS850L with 29,000 miles. I've seen pics and it looks like a beautiful bike. But, it is a 1982 with 29K miles. Its the most powerful of the two, but its also the oldest with the most miles. I'm not sure how long the Suzuki motors are good for.

Choice #2: A 2003 Honda Rebel (250cc) with 10,000 miles. Its smaller, they say a good beginner bike, but I'm affraid with the size. I mean I want something that is small enough I can learn on, but big enough I can safely ride on the highway at 65 or 70mph.

So please give me your best analyzation... Both bikes are 00 and I'd like to buy this weekend.
I don't know much about motorcycles, so please give me a good explanation. Hopefully I'll make the right choice!

Thanks a lot for the help.

I need some very small tires that are rounded like those on a street bike and have tread for high speed and good grip on pavment.

They need to be 4"-6" with rims. There will be 2 or 3 of them supporting no more then 300lbs.
This is not going to have an engine on it. It will be running downhill using gravity to give it speed. The wheels will be free wheeling.

I made an A in my Algebra II class, and that means that i get to get a motorcycle! So, i dont know the laws about it in Houston, or Texas. I have read lots of newbie stuff about riding on the internet, and all that fun stuff, but i am wondering what else i should know.

So:

Whats a good bike (street bike) to start with?

Do i have to have drivers ed to start riding?

What safety clothing should i get, and what kind of helmet?

How much am i looking for to spend on insurance?

How much am i going to spend after all the stuff is bought, 1 with motorcycle, and the other without it.

How often to i have to clean and maintain it?

How do i maintain it?

thats all!

thanks!
Edit:

I have been riding my bike (i have bmxed for about 2 years) and know how the roads work, and i myslef have had to dodge losers who arent paying attention. Even got hit by a car pulling out at 30 mph (totally sucked).

I'm planing to buy my first street bike and I just can't decide which one to choose from. I have road a dirt bike for 8 plus years, and I will be taking a motorcycle safety class before I make my purchase.

I dont have a licence legally as im only 15 and i have a street legal honda crf230 bike, and i am planning to drive through 2 cities to get to my destination. Im not worried about highway i will be driving in ditches all the way as its street legal dirt bike/street bike, until i get to the cities how can i go through the cities without getting caught they are fairly large cities. I was planning on leaving my house at midnight getting to first city at 3am, second city around 5, since its dark will no-one stop me? What are the chances of getting pulled over anyway? Would i be better off to turn my lights off and drive to the side where i cant be seen? This isn't just for a trip its to stay at my freinds for a few weeks. Please don't tell me its not safe just give me ideas on how to get through. Is it safer to go in the day and drive with the traffic will i have less chance of being pulled over or more chance? Thanks. Oh and since im 15 and never had a licence will they just let me go?

okay so my brother is 18 and bought a street bike. hes a smart kid and all, but just the thought of him out there on the rode riding it makes me so nervous that i want to throw up! im so scared that something bad is gonna happen to him, ive already had two friends and one family member die in motorcycle accidents! and now that he has a motorcycle, it scares the crap out of me! i love him sooo much and i care so much about him, hes pretty much my best friend! my parents dont really want him riding one either but they seem alot more comfortable with it than me!! i know that hes an adult and that hes allowed to make his own decisions, but that doesnt change how i feel!! everytime he leaves the house, i feel like i have a hole in my stomach and it doesnt go away until he comes back home! hes a safe driver and wears a helmet, but i just cant stop being worried about him!!

HELP ME!!
what i am supposed to do??

I am in the market for a motorcycle trailer. What are the things I should look for in the trailer itself?

I have found a few but I don't really know what to look for in them.

I have a 800 pound street bike and my truck can pretty much tow anything.

I just don't know the little things that make a difference when shopping for motorcycle trailers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I need this question answered ASAP (I'm gonna hang around online and see if anybody responds quickly). Alright, I'm about to buy a 1997 Suzuki GSX600F for the summer. It has 13K miles, a signal light broken, needs a new windshield (but not terribly bad, it's only cracked), and needs some new tires. It also has a loud aftermarket exhaust, and K&N air. LED's supposedly, but I haven't checked to see if they work. The guy is offering to sell it for 50, and I want to know if this is a very good deal for this specific Katana. NADA gives it about a 00 retail, and a low value of 50...I'm going to have to work the entire summer to pay it off, and I don't really want to get a bike that I won't be happy with. I'm a beginning rider, and I've read that this bike is very beginner friendly (not too much engine, decent handling, etc.).
I guess all that stuff I listed does sound kinda crappy. All right, nah, it's never been laid over, and it's actually in pretty good shape except for the signal (idiot snapped it off walking PAST it one day), and the windshield (it was downward pressure and is cracked in half in the middle). I've ridden dirtbikes for years, and it seems good motorwise. I just didn't know how much I should "depreciate" for cosmetic shit. PS fairings are in exc. condition too.
Thank you all very much. Believe it or not, it was because of your advice I had second thoughts about it, and I have decided to not buy it...As I read in someone else's q/a thing: "Buying your first street bike should be a fun experience...shop around a bit and enjoy it...it only happens once." So, again, thanks alot guys...it's definitely not worth buying something that expensive (for me - a poor college kid) and having to fix it right off the bat. Been looking around for better deals, and I've ALREADY found another '97 Katana for 00. Haha, imagine that. Later!

I just got my first street bike, a yamaha seca II 600. It needs new tires. But I am not sure yet if I am going to be keeping the bike, so I don't want to spend alot of money. The street sharks look good but I can't find any info about there performance or how long they last. Any info will help thanks.

I kind of, sort of, dropped my helmet.

On the side, where the face shield connects to the main frame of the helmet(it is a full face, street bike helmet), where the shield can move up and down, there is the black piece that allows it to move. A little triangle snapped off of it, and now it won't stay on. I tried to glue it, but I don't think its going to hold.

The helmet is an ICON Hooligan Mainframe
The piece number might be REV.002, those are the only numbers on it.
It's the black piece that you can unscrew.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY A REPLACEMENT PART?

Thankk Youuu

Its a kawasaki Street Bike. It is not a dirt bike.
