i bought a honda gl500 recently,and i was wondering if i could simply install straight pipes,or am i going to have to change the jets too,or any other modifications i dont know about.i know on newer motorcycles you have to change the carb but ive heard older bikes are different.is this true?

Need Help.

Background - I had a 1989 Shadow 1100. Loved it, sold it in 1999 and regretted it ever since. I have wanted a newer Honda Sabre 1100 and am about ready to purchase one. I am not knowledgeable about motorcycles nor mechanically inclined. I know the Shadow series has a great reliability history. BUT....I was given an offer for a 2005 Triumph SpeedMaster 900 with two helmets, leather jacket that was never worn, dust cover & all-weather cover...all bought last year and the bike only has about 360 miles....all for 00.

I am fairly poor, but this is a graduation present for myself. I want the Sabre, but I think the Triumph is a really good deal...and figure if I don't like it, I can sell it all next season and not lose much in depreciation...please help. New Sabre with no accessories for about k or the Triumph with many accessories for 00.

Let me try and get this accross first, before everyone gives me some asshole answers. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't bother replying. Sorry, not to be rude, but my last question was bombarded with horrible answers. Ok.

I have recently decided to buy (lease) a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 due to a (what I think) good deal at a local dealership. ,000, price including all taxes and fees, free helmet, jacket, and gloves. Now, I have ridden dirt bikes before, many times (not a pro, but can handle alright), and I would like to ask for a general idea of how to ride one of these sport bikes. Now I'm not into racing, showing off, or stunting bikes, I like to have fun and drive 10 miles over the speed limit, that's it. I am planning on taking a Safety Course as soon as I get the bike, and a friend who is an experienced rider will be taking the bike home for me until I am ready to ride on my own. Let me know what to expect, and what to look for as a new rider. I'm looking to see what you other riders have to say, and to look back on what you guys did when you were new to motorcycles. Thanks.

Assuming I wanted to buy a NEW motorcycle from the dealer, when can I expect the sale to end? I'm guessing the prices will go back up by Spring. Right now it's at ,499.00 for the 750 Shadow. Do you think the price will go even lower? What months are motorcycles the cheapest from the dealers?

I am looking at buying a GPS (girmin - zumo 550). Its design for motorcycles. The question is: I want to be able to talk to my pasensger, both of us to be able to listen to the mp3 , hear the directions from the GPS, and be able to talk on the cell phone. I would like this in stero if possible. How do I make this work? Do I need to purchase a new helmet, cell phone, and a blue tooth devise? If you hqave product info that would be great.

I've been thinking of buying a used BMW motorcycle (late 90s early 00s K1100 probably). Does anybody know where these motorcycles are made.

Also am thinking of buying a 335i. Any idea where those are manufactured (primarily)?

It seems kind of silly to me. You need to learn how to balance, isn’t that stable, etc… It would be much easier with more tires.

Having 3 to 5 tires would make much more sense. Why don’t motorcycles have more than two tires?

I really want to learn to ride a motorcycle. If I do, I will be learning on a 250cc Ninja. I will be taking the MSF course. I will have a DOT/SNELL certified helmet, armored gloves, armored jacket, and proper boots. I am not a daredevil, and I am not buying a sportsbike to fly down the roads and weave between cars. I am simply buying one because they are an affordable means of transportation, motorcycling runs in my family, and it looks like a great hobby to pick up. BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM...

My dad doesn't want me to get one due to the dangers. I agree that riding can be dangerous, but he owns three 1,000+ cc motorcycles. He says that when he started riding that things were different, and people actually watched out for bike riders. I also agree with this, but if everyone thought like him, they wouldn't take up motorcycling because things aren't the same as they used to be.

I need you guys to help me show him that it's not so dangerous if approached correctly. Show me some studies!

We live in central Oklahoma, my son is 14 years old, and we're looking for a short trip that would be fun for him and a friend. Any ideas? They like go karts but already have four wheelers and motorcycles. I was wondering about Dodge City, KS. Is there enough there to make two or three days of it?

Does anyone have some advice on pulling a small 4x8 Uhaul trailer 800 miles with a 1998 Saturn SL2? I'm moving from Phoenix, AZ to Oakland CA, which is about a 12-13 hour drive. I'd like to do it all in one trip. I have two motorcycles I need to take with me. I think the car is rated to tow 1000 lbs. I'm the only passenger, but the car will be full of clothes and lighter stuff. Should I attempt this? If I decide to, then I'll certainly install a transmission cooler and I'll do the drive overnight to avoid higher temperatures and to minimize traffic congestion. 3-4 stops for gas, and the rest should be straight and level driving. The Uhaul trailer is already pretty heavy ~650 lbs, and the bikes together total about 700lbs. That exceeds the 1000lbs recommended, but so many others say they pull heavier trailers with no problems. It's a 1.8L engine, 4 cylinder at 99k miles. Will this kill my car, and should I just pull my car with a Uhaul truck? It's about 0 more to rent a truck..

OK. I know nothing about motorcycles and/or cars. But I was backing out of my driveway and scuffed the side of my dad's side bags that are attached to his 650CS BMW motorcycle. It is pretty hard to tell, only he and I can really see it since we know, but I feel awful about it and was wondering, since the actual bags are made of plastic and are lined with aluminium on the outside if I can just buy a new alumnum casing to attach to it. I'm trying to suprise him and was wondering if anyone who has had a similar situation can tell me if that is even possible and where I can purchase it. Thanks!

So for my man's birthday I wanted to get him new tires for his motorcycle. He will really start riding it alot here soon and I know NOTHING about motorcycles or their parts and pieces. Please tell me....for those of you who are into them. If you had this type of bike, what would be the best tires to get someone for it? Cost is not really an issue, just looking for the best set. Long but please read: Let me start from the beginning. When I met him he was smoking weed and I didn't know about it, he was a pot head. One time i caught him doing outside of my house, how stupid can you be..and i broke it off with him that night. After that night, he promised he would change. That he really liked me, that he would change for me. So i gave him a chance. He was my first everything pretty much. My parents didn't like him because they found out that he was smoking weed outside of our house, and on top of that he would pick me up everyday after school and we would have sex in my house. At the time i was 17 turning 18, in my senior year. My sister's ex bf didn't like my ex, so he decided to tell my parents what was going on, he knew what was going on because my sister told him..i was really pissed off at the time but then i realized that it wasn't right and it was disrespectful..Anyways everyone kept telling me that i could do better..Another thing i disliked was that he smoked cigs..i hated that..I told him to quit many times, and he would tell me that he had quit and i would find the packs..it really hurt me that he kept lying to me, and then i finally made a compromise with him, to cut down the amount little by little, and now today he has stopped smoking. It got to a point that i didn't really want to kiss him because i was just disgusted by it. Another thing, his dad bought him a motorcycle, and he knew that i hated motorcycles because my dad had a real bad accident, he almst died..so we argued alot about this! He even had a motorcycle accident, a few scrapes and a weak leg, and he wasn't wearing helmet..i was very upset and told him that he is lucky that is all that happened to him, after that he kept riding his damn motorcycle, i almost broke up with him because of it. Oh he even told my mom we were having sex on prom nite because she kept calling all nite, I was humiliated, I wasn't ready to tell her this! Anyway when I met him he was taking emt courses and was failing because he wasn't studying. At the time he was working at chillis, and we barely saw each other. We would talk on the phone alot, and i really liked talking to him. I was never unfaithful to him. Then sometime while he was working at chillis he got arrested for credit card swiping. At the time i was really suspicious because he was buying alot of gifts and taking me out 2 eat, and then he finally confessed to me what he did. I was soo uspet at him. I remember him telling me something about it, but i never thought he would actually do it. So before all this had happened, he broke up with me because we were having alot of drama, with my parents not liking him and my mom threatnening to call the cops, and he couldn't take it anymore, and that i deserved better than him..and he was right. Then some time after that he starts texting me out of no where that he misses me, that he can't live without me, and this is in the middle of the night, and then one day I see him at the club with his friend, and Im with my friends dancing, and he won't take his eyes off me, later on he asks me to dance and i don't know why I say yes..and he starts telling me that he misses me again, and he tries to kiss me and I don't let him and I begin to cry and tell him that I can't do it anymore and I walk away, then after some more time as im studying in the library the messages start again, and i give in. We start seeing each other secretly, meeting in motels, and i start lying saying that I am going to the library.. and then i finally tell my parents that i am seeing him again, and my mom n dad don't like it..my dad even told me that if i ever married him that he wouldn't go to my wedding, that i could do so much better, and that he didn't want to talk to me, eventually he did start talking to me though. So when he got arrested, his dad bailed him out and he called me crying, that he was so sorry for what he put me through, that he was happy that i was in his life, that many other girls wouldn't have put up with it, and that i was the good in his life. So obviously, he got fired from chillis and he began working with his dad. He had plans to start a bussiness, he had alot of plans. Through all this i supported him because I loved him, despite everything. He changed because of me, he told me that i was the positive influence in his life, and his parents and sister told me the same. They loved me, and they were so good to me, i grew really attached to them. Then some time later he decides to go back to school, he found a good job that pays for school as long as he maintains his grades. He was very smart, but made alot of stupid mistakes. I loved how affectionate he could be with me, but there were times that he was an asshole..he had anger problems, he would flip out easily.. i am really bad with directions and he called me stupid and retarded one time, and then when i would cry later on he would tell me that he was sorry and that he didn't mean it,

I'm 5'11" and 180 lbs. I've never ridden a motorcycle before. One friend suggests that I get this Yamaha Virago 250, which looks a little small to me. I've got another friend who is recommending a Honda Shadow 1100, which is more the size that I was wanting. They both have good reasons for the motorcycles they recommend, I'd like to hear what other people say.

I have a great oppurtuniy to get either a 2008 Yamaha Raider (black) or a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard M109R/R2 either in black or orange for the Price of 11,000 OTD. Are these good prices for thes motorcycles? whats you opinion on both motorcyles? Ive been very undecided, I was going to buy the 2008 mean Streak LE for the same price ( which i think i could get 10,000 OTD but they wont let me) but then I went to the same dealer but talked to a different sales person and he was willing to give me the mentioned motorcycles above at that OTD price. Anyone own these motorcycles? Does anyone know the invoice? Can anyone link me recent reviews of the motorcycles? thanks.

With a 1998 Suzuki GSXR 750 with almost 40,000 miles on it. What is probably the first thing i should have looked at? I really dont know a whole lot about motorcycles, just bought this as a first bike, and i know, it has a lot of miles. Nothing too crazy seems to wrong with it. It just seems like the engine is trying really hard sometimes and dont want to blow it out or anything.

I'm looking to buy my first motorcycle and I've managed to narrow my choices down to motorcycles: a Kawasaki Ninja 250R and a Suzuki GS500F. I found both models at pretty much the same price used, no chance of buying new since this will be my first bike. Which one is a better choice? I won't be riding on the highway all too often but the occasional 1 or 2 hour ride is possible. Also on an optional side note, is the Yamaha FZ6R a good starter bike at all as the company claims? I am looking to buy a Honda VFR750, someone has one for sale locally, it is a 95, the bike looks very clean, its red in color, he said it has a small dent near the bottom of the tank, and the aftermarket muffler has rust, on it, it looks as though the front fender is a bit warped cause I think they're plastic, I have seen other vfr's with this. no other major dings in the paint, the bike has 54,000 miles, he said he would like to get 00 for it. I thought it seemed a bit high considering the milage, but I dont buy motorcycles so I dont know. I could fix the rust, and heat the front fender and straighten it, but the milage has me worried.
More info just emailed, it has a new rear tire last year, new front this year, clean title, but he stated it needs new mirrors cause the rubber on the old ones were falling apart, I see new racing mirrors on ebay for about , again, its the milage that has me worried.

Iv seen all kinds of different set-ups from gas to diesel, mercedes to volkswagen.
I will be using it to drive about 2000 miles at a time cross country several times a year, as well as a off road 4x4 fun vehicle.
I need to know what will be the best all around and fuel efficient engine.
I'm not a speed demon and will be cruising along at a nice safe speed as iv been told these things flip easily.

Secondary question. I know these things don't weigh much, but I need to know about how much hey can tow on a lil trailer...and don't tell me they cant cuz there are even lil trailers for motorcycles..lol
I know im limited and will take that into account at the time, but i need to know my limits.

I am currently looking into buying a motorcycle (it's a 1964 Honda) and it is absolutely gorgeous, but the seller is saying that the timing chain has jumped a tooth. Is this a costly repair? or should I take it on...I do have a friend that is good with motorcycles so maybe the repair will be easier to do through him...

I'm a 16-year-old guy with my basic license. I’m going into my senior year and looking to buy a bike, nothing over 600cc. I've been saving my money from part time jobs for the past two years and have saved about 8 grand, after buying my self a car. With gas prices soaring it's starting to seem unreasonable to have a car with bad mpg for my only mode of transportation. I've always been a fan of motorcycles due to their sporty look and great handling. My parents aren't really supportive of me buying a bike, not due to my lack of responsibility or skill, but due to the lack of responsibility of other drivers. They think that if I drive a bike I'm going to pull out of the driveway and get hit buy a semi. I am about to enroll myself in a motorcycle safety course and more defensive driving courses; unfortunately the parents still have a problem. How should I go about convincing them in a polite way to let me buy MYSELF a motorcycle?
