I'm curious as to people's opinions on the best handling motorcycle to ride in the rain. Obviously the tires will have a great deal to do with it, but which bike is the best for riding in the rain?

I want to buy a brand new Motorcycle at a dealer. It's a Yamaha FZ6R
They are asking ,990.00. I was wondering how much I can chip off the price. Meaning how low are they going to go down on that price?
The State I live in is California.

Assuming I wanted to buy a NEW motorcycle from the dealer, when can I expect the sale to end? I'm guessing the prices will go back up by Spring. Right now it's at ,499.00 for the 750 Shadow. Do you think the price will go even lower? What months are motorcycles the cheapest from the dealers?
Thank you, Yammy

It makes the motorcycle look lower too, how do they do that?

I really want to learn to ride a motorcycle. If I do, I will be learning on a 250cc Ninja. I will be taking the MSF course. I will have a DOT/SNELL certified helmet, armored gloves, armored jacket, and proper boots. I am not a daredevil, and I am not buying a sportsbike to fly down the roads and weave between cars. I am simply buying one because they are an affordable means of transportation, motorcycling runs in my family, and it looks like a great hobby to pick up. BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM...

My dad doesn't want me to get one due to the dangers. I agree that riding can be dangerous, but he owns three 1,000+ cc motorcycles. He says that when he started riding that things were different, and people actually watched out for bike riders. I also agree with this, but if everyone thought like him, they wouldn't take up motorcycling because things aren't the same as they used to be.

I need you guys to help me show him that it's not so dangerous if approached correctly. Show me some studies!

My mom and aunt are paranoid about safety since my dad was in a motorcycle wreak. Then my aunt bought a triike and wants me to try it out but the only way she'll let me learn to ride it is if i have a helmet, wrist, elbow, and knee pads. And then she said, "The better you get at it, the less pads you'll have to wear." Honestly, ithink its supposed to be the othe way around. Like, "When you start getting better, i want you to wear a helmet." Doesn't that sound less paranoid? Tell me what you think.(:

sorry, its spelled 'trikke'
the hell you talkin about dan?

So far so good. I just wanted to thank all of the Yahoo Answers people that helped me to pick out a beginner motorcycle. I ended up buying a 1976 Honda CB550 in great condition for cheap. 50 horsepower and I don't mind if I get a scratch on it. So far it has been pretty good to learn on. In my opinion it is a good bike to begin on because I am not competing with the crotch rocket crowd and it has a cool retro look and it is very forgiving when I screw up. Thanks to all of your answers.

so i'm tryin to find some old new stock to gear up cause im gettin a motorcycle next year, so figure i can piece my gear together this year. i have a 2004 nolan roadrunner helmet new in box already, bought a couple years ago and its been in my closet still new in its box. tonight i learned about snell 2005. seein as i wont be gettin a bike till next year should i get a snell 2005? or should i wait until next year and get a snell 2010 approved helmet? is my nolan still a safe helmet to wear?

Hello all,

I am looking to buy my first motorcycle. I have zero experience on them, and I want to be as responsible as possible when choosing my first bike. The two that I am debating between are the SV650 and the GSX-R600. If it matters, I am 5'11" 240#.

I hear very mixed things from people. Friends and salespeople keep telling me that there's not that much difference in these two, so I should just get the GSX-R600 since that's the one that feels more comfortable (ergo-wise). But, everyone online seems to think the GSX-R600 is way too much bike for a beginner.

I will certainly be taking the proficiency course before getting a bike at all, but I am very interested to hear what everyone here has to say. Bike and insurance costs aren't an issue here for me. Safety and responsibility is.

Thanks very much for your time.
Thanks for the answers.

With regard to dropping the bike, it is my understanding that frame sliders are sufficient to prevent the body from being destroyed. Is this incorrect?

I'm considering on getting a Blast to be my first bike. It's a little bit more pricier than the Nighthawk and Ninja but is more stylish than the Nighthawk and has a larger engine than the Ninja.

The seating position appeals to me a lot and it looks like I could add a lot of features to it if I wanted to.

Also, being that I'm new to all of this, Buells are purchased at Harley Davidson dealerships right?

Also when I save up a bit more cash, the gear I plan on buying are. Gloves and boots by alpinestars. A jacket by icon or alpinestars. Would you recommend body armor? And for the helmet I plan on buying a Scorpion Exo.

I'll be riding around in an suburban area, westchester county, 20 minutes from New York city. There are many SUV's around here which are my main turn off for buying a bike right now being that I'm only 19 years old. I also need to look into the right insurance to purchase.

But............ Buell definitely is my number one choice. As well for any other style of riding I'd go with KTM. My main turn on for buying a bike is because it's kick ass and I want to be a part of the motorcycle family. =]

I have to change the oil on this motorcycle, and I'm not sure, how many quarts of oil I need. I'm going to buy a new oil filter. Is there anything else I need to know?

We have a 04 Toyota Sequoia that has a towing capacity of 6200 lbs. and our camper has a unladen weight of 3000 max. 6200 lbs. we want to take along a golf cart or our motorcycle any suggestions?

I went to buy a car off of craigslist and it was out in the middle of no where, he gave me a fake address. When I got there, a man on a motorcycle(with no plates but I could tell it was a gsx-r, i think it was a 1000) robbed my cash(about 00), took my cell phone and hand cuffed me to MY car. I sat for about an hour before someone found me...the cops said this has happened 3 times in the last month and seems to be the same guy...I didn't see his face because he had on his helmet...I talked to him over the phone, i gave them the phone number I had from him and it was a trac phone with no name. He played it out very well and seemed to have done this many many times...He told me to call when I was close, so I did and he said to park on the road and wait and he will be home from work in a few mins. then he pulled up on the bike and straight up robbed me. So the car I wanted to buy, didn't exist...Do you think it is likely the cops will catch him? How can they put a stop to this, I mean even if they somehow set up a sting and wait for him to show up he can just take off on his bike...

I saw a motorcycle i would like to buy for very cheap but it has a blown cylinder.

Could this be fixed and how muhc wourl it set me back >

its a 1999 suzuki katana and he wants 500 for it. it has some other minor issues like dead battery etc..

my sisters boyfriend got pulled over last night by the police for riding a RAZOR mini motorcycle (shown in the pic above) on the sidewalk. the cops said it was because he was riding with no helmet, no goggles, no license, no insurance, and got 5 violations and has to appear in court. KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU CAN BE UNDER 18 TO BUY AND RIDE THE BIKE, and the scooter was impounded and towed and he cannot pick the bike up unless he has a recipt or title, but he bought it from some guy so he does not have either. think the cops were just being ignorant???? DO YOU REALLY NEED A LICENSE OR INSURANCE FOR IT?

Ive been looking for old Honda cb's to buy as my first motorcycle. I have an old honda c100 from 1962, but that can registered as a moped. im looking for something with a little bit more power. i found a 1975 honda cb 175 for 0. The owner said that the engine is tight from sitting for two years. what exactly does this mean? how do you fix it?
Thanks

I am 19 and currently very interested about sportbikes. I have done little research and know what to expect. As a rider, please give me opinions on what to do and what bike should i get and how should I maintain it.

So I am 19 and generally very mature driver (sometimes I get pissed at someone but I have alot of experience. I was going to take the MSF or the AMA course or whatever that gets you the license but I had to go away for summer.

I also know the controls of a bike from my friends and stuff (driven stick shift). I just never got a chance to try a bike.

I was also considering 600cc as my first bike, is this too powerfull for first time riders? the ones that are actually interested in motorcycle.

I was also considering 08 cbr 600. Any ideas about this bike (it looks sooo hot :D).

And lastly how do you maintain a bike, Oil the chin?, when to change oil, where to store the bike.

I would also appreciate if you guys can comment on the protective clothing of riders. Is the helmet annoying? (i dont like hats!) Does the jacket keep you warm? Should I buy leather pants or is jeans fine?

Sorry it got kinda long :)

Hai,
I need some documents (.PDF, .DOC or ONLINE ) regarding repair of motorcycle if I got any problem.
Why I need:
1.I buy a Bajaj Avenger recently. I have one more bike Yamaha Libro.
2.I am staying out of the city; there are no service centers near to my location. I have to go to city to get service.
3.They are charging too much and giving less quality service. And every time they are suggesting to change so many parts unnecessarily. It becomes very much cost to me. Because they will get some commission on our purchase of automobile parts.
4.Do you believe, I spent more than my bike cost for service/repair in the last two years.
5.I can do my self every thing because I studied physics/automobiles in my education and got more than 80%

So, Could you please give me your valuable suggestions in this regard. That will help me so much.

Little back ground I need to purchase safety gear for street motorcycle. Info about me I'm big not tall but width wise. I'm 5' 9" about 275. I'm a either a 3 or 4 XL shirt wise My waist is 42.

Now for what I'm asking. I need to buy everything pants, leather jacket, gloves, and helmet.
I'm not sure of what brands to buy or anything like that I do know though that I have a 750 budget for all this stuff (it was 500, but youtube videos really have a way of persuading you). So any suggestions on what to buy brand wise and how the clothe is suppose to feel (really a second question now). I'm looking into buying all this stuff by next Monday. Thank you.
Johnny

I live in So Cal towards the San Diego area

I changed my worn 3.00-17 rear exterior tire with a Dunlop Low Profile TT900 series tire having 80/80-17 markings but still used the old rubber interior of 3.00-17. I experienced two flat tires on separate occasions each time I had a backrider with me. Shop guy suggested I use a 2.50-17 rubber interior because the 3.00-17 interior inside the 80/80-17 exterior tire is too big. My question is, what do these numbers on the tires and interiors mean? And do I really have to select a more larger tire for the rear wheel than in the front or could I use the same wheel size for both front the rear of my motorcycle?

Im fuming. Please tell me if Im being unreasonable. A month before buying our 1st house, I finally give in to my husband on his nagging for a PS3 (0) so I buy it for him for our 1st wedding anniversary. He was happy....for the day...not the NEXT day he started harping about his other wish. A motorcycle. (He's 25 by the way)He looked online all week and even though I didnt agree at all he went and bought a 00 bike. He has never ridden one ever! Over the past couple of weeks he has spent hundreds on all the bits n pieces like helmet...sliders etc etc. We close on our house at the end of the month and have alot of upfromt fees to pay and alot of stuff to buy like a fridge...furniture.
He said we will get the fridge straight away but the patio set and bbq will have to wait til his bikes paid off. The house has a pool. Its JUST coming into summer. Apparently we wont be having friends over to swim and bbq this year though! We'll be getting all of that good stuff at the end of the year once his bikes paid off! Excellent!!!
Would anyone else be PISSED???? Or am I being selfish, wanting to enjoy our new home and pool with friends this summer???
Oh I almost forgot...when he was talking about getting the stupid bike he SAID he would get a 2nd job to pay it off so it wouldnt effect us at all...now he's saying our house stuff has to wait til the bikes paid off and is not showing any signs of getting that 2nd job??! Lies.

So for my man's birthday I wanted to get him new tires for his motorcycle. He will really start riding it alot here soon and I know NOTHING about motorcycles or their parts and pieces. Please tell me....for those of you who are into them. If you had this type of bike, what would be the best tires to get someone for it? Cost is not really an issue, just looking for the best set. Please help and don't make fun of the chick, hahah,

Hi I will be purchasing a motorcycle for the first time very soon and wanted to know what kind of gear I should be looking to get as well. Also how much I should be looking to spend. I don't want to go all 'Wild Hogs' and buy a bunch of stuff I won't really need but I don't want to get too cheap and not get something that would help with safety or make riding more enjoyable.

Everyone agrees you need a good helmet, gloves, boots and jacket. Is there anything else I should be looking for. Also should I worry about getting an armored jacket in case of an accident? With prescription glasses would a 3/4 helmet be better then a full helmet? If I ride to work in dress pants would I need to wear chaps or would it be fine w/o them for the short commute?

I welcome all input. Thanks in advance.
