This was posted on our district site, the letter is from Greg Robinson, Owner of Unadilla...

Good Afternoon...forget the good, as our country has descended into lunacy.

I have spent most of the day on two conference calls relative to the subject line above, and I must say I am rather concerned about the fate of our sport and industry. Not to mention our local communities for the further loss of jobs and $$ that our industry brings in each year. It is certainly that dire..believe me.

As of yesterday, all the OEMs had to pull for sale all new youth minicycles and atvs for those under the age of 13...this under order of the CPSC due to lead content of plastics and certain metals. As of yesterday, a dealer or private individual can no longer provide parts or service, to these affected machines, in which there is a possibility that those same parts may contain lead...no oil changes, plastic, levers, engine cases, etc, etc..goggles, helmets, clothing, knee braces..you name it. You may think that is just for new machines, but it is for everything new and used.

The CPSC also ruled that machines under 85cc are considered toxic to the health of young children.

Effective yesterday, Honda has pulled replacement parts from their service system for these machines pending lead certification...this takes 400 days. KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha are doing the same thing. If you have a 1,2,3 year old machine, you won't be able to buy most parts for it very soon.

Yamaha is sending out restrictions to its dealers saying that an 85cc bike can only be sold, and should only be operated by someone over the age of 13.

Now to the fun part for us as a race promoter.

Because the manufacturers are now issuing these guidelines, we as promoters cannot allow a youth under the age of 13 to participate for two reasons.
We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a vehicle that has been determined by the manufacturer and the CPSC to be unsafe for that age level.
We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a vehicle that the CPSC has determined is a toxic substance.
If you think I am joking, consider the following
MX Sports is considering removing youth classes from the Loretta Lynn's program, GNCC, and ATV Nationals...we run all three of these series and I can tell you that these classes make up over 1/3 of our entries and more than half of our attendance.
The AMA will be forced to ban youths under 13 from any AMA amateur or pro competition due to legal ramifications. The same will apply to local districts and sanctioning bodies, as insurance will not be available to cover this exposure.
The lifeblood of our sport are these kids..if they cannot participate, they will find something else to do, and we will not get them back. They will not race, watch, or buy products. That means Mom, Dad and older brothers/sisters won't be there either.
Unadilla would most likely not participate in any form of amateur racing..with only half or less of the entries left, it wouldn't be financially possible.
DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION YET!

There are two efforts going on right now to get a temporary stay granted by the CPSC for "Off Road Vehicles." The MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council) and Missouri State House Rep Mike Sense(#4 in line in the MO st govt) are both developing grass roots letter campaigns through websites to develop a ground swell of support for this stay. Keep in mind this is only temporary, and unless a Federal injunction or legislation is developed, this isn't going away.

There are several opinions floating around on this subject saying that our thinking is flawed and that only the sale of new units is affected...if that is the case, why are helmet, goggle, sneakers, sunglasses, OEM parts and accessories, and dealer service being pulled for these units???

I will leave you with this..if indeed this is overblown, and we are right that we shouldn't be affected by this, it still doesn't mean that we can't/won't be sued by someone using this logic, and worse yet, convince a jury that the above is true. If it gets that far, you will have spent nearly a million $$ in your own defense, just to prove you were right all along.

IS IT WORTH THAT TO YOU?

I will get you info on the two websites, and I encourage you to beg everyone you know that rides, owns, promotes, or attends an off road sporting event to get everyone they know in the same manner to fill out one of these letters...Every Mom Dad and Kid should individually enter their name. Then they should contact their local representatives too.

Thanks for listening, and please do not think you can't make a difference..contact your local representatives as well..explain the economic impact this will have..educate yourself on this subject as quickly as you can.

Hey all I am getting my first bike next spring. I can't wait to join the motorcycle culture. I've been saving up for 3 years and have been planning to buy a bike for 2 years now. I'm 19.

It's going to be my first huge investment! I'm buying a Kawasaki Ninja 250R in black. I will be adding a detailed red paint job (Was thinking about the traditional green but I want to be different ;) I plan on getting a black Icon motorhead jacket. Heavily armored/ perforated Alpinestar glove and boots. (In red.) I'm still deciding on what chaps to purchase. Still deciding as well on which insurance I will get. I'm assuring myself that it will be "full coverage though. However this is the sexy helmet I'll most likely buy:

http://www.agv.com/dyn_prod.php?p=S4_BLK...

Pros and Cons of it?

P.S.

This is my last motorcycle question I'm posting. I just can't wait anymore. When I get her I'll be cruising, discovering new roads each night. I don't plan to pop wheelies (maybe one or 2 =D or a stoppie, but it seems horrible for the suspension.) I'm an overly FULL time student at my college and working a part time job. Full time job in the summer. Next semester I will be taking about 20 or so credits. I took 18 this semester. I'm an honors student. I mean to brag =P. I'm just so happy of all my accomplishments. I never saw my future to turn out like this. My parents divorced when I was 3 and my mother's in debt. Someday when I get a nice stable job my loved one's won't have to work so much to make a buck. But I'll make them realize that I did to save theirs. I'll finally be a part of this huge motorcycle family and I already feel accepted. Anywayyyy, I just needed to "vent" a little bit. LOL, pun intended....
The helmet does look like it has a great venting system.

But please, what are the pros and cons of AGV's helmets, if you know of any? Thank you

Stupid, immature comments are also accepted but won't help much.

She knows I'm responseable enough but is afraid of her little boy growing up. My dad is ok with it as long as she is.

1. I'm 15, 2 mouths from my 16th birthday

3. They're planing on buying me a car, but the bike is only 4,500

4. I like the looks of sports bikes and how they feel, so I'm not going to speed cause I know I can get hurt doing that on a bike.( I know everybody says that)

5. South Carolina doesn't require helmets but I plan on wearing one along with other safty gear

6. gas mileage is alot better on bikes which is good with gas prices now. (It gets 75 mpg for gods sake)

7. The only wrong reason I want one is that girls I know like guys who ride bikes.

I've made the decision to switch to a bike year round. Seeing as it's late September, people are already calling me "stupid," and "saying "what a horrible idea," and so on so forth. Well, I've sold my old car, and bought a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja, kept in great shape by a friend of mine, with only 4,500 miles. I would really like some advice on some year round gear. I have already bought the airforce jacket, by Rev-It, which came highly rated, via online, and the people at Colemans (of course.) I already shelled out for the spine protector insert, but I'm wondering what I should consider for winter. Pants? What helmets do you suggest? I'm borrowing one from a friend, and its a KBC, but the visor frequently fogs up, which is annoying. I love to ride, and I'm ready to be a serious biker, (even though coming home from work today in the rain scared the living **** outta' me!) Please help me make some decisions on gear, and quality gear, preferably gear that's not seasonal, and I can use year round! Also, any tips on weather condition riding, experience, etc. is more than welcome! Thanks in advance!
I guess I should add that I live in Washington D.C so you know what kind of weather I'll be dealing with. Keep in mind I'm not planning on riding in the snow or ice, (but also, does anybody here ever ride in snow?)

Hi I want to open my own business in London. I want a motorcycle shop, I gather it would be cheaper to start my own than buy, what do I need to do to start the business? Do I need a license from the council? or can I get a place to rent and just start repairing bikes and selling secondhand ones? I would also like to sell helmets and other bits of stuff as well.
Has anyone done this?
I know bikes and have a partner who is interested in doing this with me.

I just bought a Harley and want a German motorcycle helmet to go with it. Are there any sites with good information about German style helmets for motorcycles so I'll know I'm getting a quality lid?

I really want one but my mom thinks theirs no point and I'll kill my self the first day.

I live in La and people drive quite fast here.

I want to learn how to ride and buy a motorcycle. I have heard so many stories about how unsafe motorcycles are that im a little bit afraid to be sincere.
Anyways i still want to , any experts have any advice im probably just going to use it to drive around town and go to college since finding a parking space with a car is difficult.
My house is only 10 minutes from my university.
I have been reading some but i want to know as much as possible , what brand is good for begginings? what kind of things would i need ( helmets ,clothes ..etc?)
And any ideas how to make my mom feel more secure about it?

I was watching the NFL network and behind deion i seen the helmets i checked everywhere but i cant seem to find them. I got lucky and found some on ebay but im looking for a Carolina Panthers Motorcycle helmet
here is a Pitt. helmet they look like this

Please help i've tried google, yahoo and i still cant find them

I have little compassion for those that say they cannot afford to insure their children. #1 - don't have children if you can't afford them; then don't expect me to pay for the ones you can't afford. #2 - it doesn't cost that much to insure a child; part of a parents responsibility is to sacrafice for the sake of their children.

Case in point - I have an acquaintance whose parents both worked and they made just above the cut-off for getting government help for insurance. What did they do? They went out and bought 2 brand new motorcycles, helmets, chaps, gloves and boots, so they could take their little darling on wonderful family outings. That money would have went a long way to insuring them, huh?

Am I unreasonable?
artgurrl - you exagerrate...anyone can get a family plan HSA account for much less than 00 a month. No, the best plan that pays for all of the coverage would not be affordable to most, but at least some coverage is better than none or making someone else pay for it?

What is the name of this motorcycle helmet? Despite the fact it's got the KTM logo printed on it, is it an actual commercial helmet that I can buy or was it specially manufactured to promote the KTM? Or is it just an Arai or AGV that has been painted and had the "KTM" sticker pasted onto it? There are various other cool helmets that seem to have been specifically made for the company of the motorcycle, such as Piaggio and Honda. So, if it exists for sale at the shop, what's the name (model name) of the helmet? Please check the link below:

It looks just what I am after (bluetooth, with flipup front and dark internal visor).... but is it any good...
is it safe?
how noisy is it (I am used to a Shoei),
is there anything I should know? (I wear glasses - will that affect anything?, which plug does it come with for the bluetooth charger, how does it compare with the equiv Caberg helmet? etc).
Does it look any good?

I can't get to a stockest (I am in Sussex, UK) so I am looking at buying on the net - not something I have done before with helmets.

Does anyone have a web address for viper helmets so I could find out where their retailers are?...

Otherwise known as Viper RSV-121 or Viper RS-V121

I just bought a Honda Goldwing. However in iraq and haven't got my hands on it yet. There are so many headsets on the net I'm overwelmed. My concerns are price, waterproof, windstatic, and fitting in a fullface helmet. I've seen helmets with radios already in them but way to expensive.

I know bikes and have a partner who is interested in doing this with me.

I was wondering if it matters what kind you buy. Are each kind of full faced helmets equally as protective or are there certain brands or something that are more solid or protective than the rest...

Anybody know good motorcycle accessories(helmets, jackets, gloves) dealers in NYC or surrounding suburbs? I know I can buy online; but I prefer to try them on first for fit. Thanks All.

I am thinking about purchasing a 250cc sportbike. It will be my first bike, and safety is the most important issue to me. I am definitely going to wear a helmet and all the gear money can buy, but I need help choosing which helmet. The problem with helmets is that it takes away from your peripheral vision. Which full helmet should I buy that will give me the most viewing capacity all while protecting my whole head? Riders help! Thanks in advance.

i have a new 2004 nolan roadrunner helmet i bought a couple years ago, still new in box. it is black with some silver graphics. it was such a good deal i couldnt pass it up. i am wondering if i should paint it a bright yellow? i've been looking at motorcyclists on the road and notice the brightly colored helemts and jackets SO much better than the darker ones. i understand helmet manufacturers dont recommend painting their helmets. and i understand my odds of laying down my future bike, hence the integrity of said helmet is paramount. but i'm also aware of suv's pullin out in front of me cause they dont see me.

so should i paint my helmet bright yellow? or not?

i also plan on getting a yellow bike if possible. i dont care if my stuff matches....i just want to be as visable as possible.

i live in california and was wondering if you have to wear anything else other than a helmet. please give me a link to a site where i can buy jackets, helmets, and one of those fancy leather pants. thanks to all who answered.

Given the gas prices nowadays, I'm thinking about buying a motorcycle.

Is there a good beginner's bike (yet with a "Bad @$$" factor) that you guys can recommend? I'm looking more at a cruiser-type bike, something that'll take me back and forth from school/work/home.

As far as prices...I'm willing to spend about 8,000$

Are there any good helmets?

Has anyone found a dot approved helmet that isnt so bulky? I'm use to a "novality" helmet, but north carloina passed a law that all helmets must be dot approved and they are writing tickets like crazy. So, where can I buy one that isnt so BIG, I've looked on-line until i'm crossed eyed. Thanks in advance!
I live in Fl. and ride everyday without a helmet, I visit N.C. about once a month and I just hate wearing a helmet, it should be my choice.

I ride a cruiser and I've been looking to purchase a small helmet know as "lids" that is DOT approved. Most of the small helmets that I've tried are still too bulky. I bought one thru internet "Skid helmet", but it is still too thick. I want a small slimmer helmet that is DOT approved. Where can I get/buy it?
