Let me try and get this accross first, before everyone gives me some asshole answers. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't bother replying. Sorry, not to be rude, but my last question was bombarded with horrible answers. Ok.
I have recently decided to buy (lease) a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 due to a (what I think) good deal at a local dealership. ,000, price including all taxes and fees, free helmet, jacket, and gloves. Now, I have ridden dirt bikes before, many times (not a pro, but can handle alright), and I would like to ask for a general idea of how to ride one of these sport bikes. Now I'm not into racing, showing off, or stunting bikes, I like to have fun and drive 10 miles over the speed limit, that's it. I am planning on taking a Safety Course as soon as I get the bike, and a friend who is an experienced rider will be taking the bike home for me until I am ready to ride on my own. Let me know what to expect, and what to look for as a new rider. I'm looking to see what you other riders have to say, and to look back on what you guys did when you were new to motorcycles. Thanks.

I really want to learn to ride a motorcycle. If I do, I will be learning on a 250cc Ninja. I will be taking the MSF course. I will have a DOT/SNELL certified helmet, armored gloves, armored jacket, and proper boots. I am not a daredevil, and I am not buying a sportsbike to fly down the roads and weave between cars. I am simply buying one because they are an affordable means of transportation, motorcycling runs in my family, and it looks like a great hobby to pick up. BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM...
My dad doesn't want me to get one due to the dangers. I agree that riding can be dangerous, but he owns three 1,000+ cc motorcycles. He says that when he started riding that things were different, and people actually watched out for bike riders. I also agree with this, but if everyone thought like him, they wouldn't take up motorcycling because things aren't the same as they used to be.
I need you guys to help me show him that it's not so dangerous if approached correctly. Show me some studies!

I'm considering on getting a Blast to be my first bike. It's a little bit more pricier than the Nighthawk and Ninja but is more stylish than the Nighthawk and has a larger engine than the Ninja.
The seating position appeals to me a lot and it looks like I could add a lot of features to it if I wanted to.
Also, being that I'm new to all of this, Buells are purchased at Harley Davidson dealerships right?
Also when I save up a bit more cash, the gear I plan on buying are. Gloves and boots by alpinestars. A jacket by icon or alpinestars. Would you recommend body armor? And for the helmet I plan on buying a Scorpion Exo.
I'll be riding around in an suburban area, westchester county, 20 minutes from New York city. There are many SUV's around here which are my main turn off for buying a bike right now being that I'm only 19 years old. I also need to look into the right insurance to purchase.
But............ Buell definitely is my number one choice. As well for any other style of riding I'd go with KTM. My main turn on for buying a bike is because it's kick ass and I want to be a part of the motorcycle family. =]

Little back ground I need to purchase safety gear for street motorcycle. Info about me I'm big not tall but width wise. I'm 5' 9" about 275. I'm a either a 3 or 4 XL shirt wise My waist is 42.
Now for what I'm asking. I need to buy everything pants, leather jacket, gloves, and helmet.
I'm not sure of what brands to buy or anything like that I do know though that I have a 750 budget for all this stuff (it was 500, but youtube videos really have a way of persuading you). So any suggestions on what to buy brand wise and how the clothe is suppose to feel (really a second question now). I'm looking into buying all this stuff by next Monday. Thank you.

Hi I will be purchasing a motorcycle for the first time very soon and wanted to know what kind of gear I should be looking to get as well. Also how much I should be looking to spend. I don't want to go all 'Wild Hogs' and buy a bunch of stuff I won't really need but I don't want to get too cheap and not get something that would help with safety or make riding more enjoyable.
Everyone agrees you need a good helmet, gloves, boots and jacket. Is there anything else I should be looking for. Also should I worry about getting an armored jacket in case of an accident? With prescription glasses would a 3/4 helmet be better then a full helmet? If I ride to work in dress pants would I need to wear chaps or would it be fine w/o them for the short commute?
I welcome all input. Thanks in advance.

I am new to road motorcycling (just got a Kawasaki Ninja 250) and am trying to decide what kind of body armor to buy (both for a jacket and pants) before I take up non-back-road motorcycling (IE cycling in areas with a fair deal of actual traffic).
It seems to me 0-0 is the range for buying both jacket and pants body armor wear.
I wonder, what are the best brands (IE cheapest that will do the job well) and how much injury protection will they offer over the usual standard leather pants + gloves + leather jacket + full-face helmet?
Also, what is about the worst injury I can get while using these properly (minus getting run over by a car or having my motorcycle explode in my face)?
For the record, I have taken motorcycle safety courses and obey all the rules (basically driving as if no one can see me and looking for anything moving with 12 seconds of me).
------------------------------------------------------
More than anything, I'm worried about what happens if someone rear-ends me or starts moving toward me, accelerating from a stopped position coming from the an intersection (IE, in the case of a drunk driver or overly avid cell-phone user, for example).

I am new to motorcycle riding. I bought a Ninja 250. Got helmet, a jacket, boots and gloves.. I am just a little worried about knee/shin protection. While there are good racing pants available that probably give good protection, it is very expensive and moreover, I cant afford to wear those pants wherever I go. So am looking for affordable(<30$) pads that i can wear under jean. I looked up some pads but they are mostly for off-road dirt biking. Can anyone suggest pads for sport bikes to wear on the road ?

I have a five year old who has a pw50, with training wheels, that he would like to ride. He does not yet have all of the gear for it. I have been told that the power can be turned down to not allow the bike to go over about 5mph. If this is done, and the bike is ridden on flat land only, what gear would be considered absolutely necessary? My husband tells me it is no more dangerous than a power wheels, but I am a nervous mom. He has hand-me-down helmet and goggles, pants, gloves and shoulder/chest pads. I wouldn't have a problem buying him a jersey but those boots seem awfully expensive for a five year old to outgrow within six months!

ok so im pretty set on buying a motorcycle now. just one more question. can you give me your best estimate on how much gear costs? probably just helmet, gloves, and idk maybe a jacket... or what ever else is absolutely necessary for ridin. please and thanks!

Okay, so I was wondering, since everyone has told me that if I were to buy a motorcycle, buy it used. (I'll be 18+ by the time I'd get one.) I a bit over a year. LOl okay...i turn 17 in like april. but whatever. i would take the classes for learning. i would use the proper gear such as helmet gloves boots. (i believe in wearing a helmet. i kind of like my brain inside my skull) okay, so i really like the V-Star Classic. But it's a tad bit expensive. plus i have to think of insurance and gear. So if i were to get it used, about how much would i pay? and is used safe?
oh and i would like it to travel to the university. depending on where i live of course.

I am a beginer rider and I look foward to purchasing a green 2008 ninja 250R. I more or less made up my mind about the bike, but i have no idea about what kind of helmet, jacket, gloves, pants. gloves etc. to buy. I am looking for affordable brands that will get the job done and that will match my bike. I know of icon, they seem to make some pretty good stuff. are they good? are they too expensive? what is a good brand that isnt too expensive. just any information you guys know i would appreciate it, thanks.

I just got my first bike, a Kawasaki Ninja 650r. Now my focus is on the gear. Got my helmet when I bought the bike, an Arai Corsair V (only the best for my noggin). My question pertains to jackets, gloves, and most importantly boots. I'm currently going to college full time, but don't live on campus. So I have a 15 minute ride to school, the hitch is I need gear that I can wear for several hours a day off the bike, and still be comfortable. The jacket is easy, as I can wear that all day most days. The gloves I can take off, and put in my backpack. The boots, however, are the real issue. I like Sidi and Alpinestars, but are those full racing boots too much for everyday use? Do those boots go under jeans well? Any and all opinions/suggestions welcome. I prefer leather jackets btw.
Also I was curious what would be an appropriate next bike? I really like all of the liter bikes (CBR1000RR, R1, etc), but are they too much power for a second bike? I can handle the 650r just fine, that's why I chose it, but I'm eventually going to get the upgrade itch in a couple of years I'm sure.

My husband just bought a bike and they sold him a helmet and gloves that are too big, a jacket that is too small...and didn't give him anything but the debit reciept, and he wore the gear when he rode home so now they won't exchange it. SO...now we need to know where to go to get new gear at a decent price??? We also need to pick up some women's gear when we get my husbands...but where to go? We are new to the whole motorcycle scene and we don't want to get taken!! Thanks. We live in the northish portland area.
We would prefer "in-person" stores rather than on-line where you can touch what you are about to buy :0) Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

I'm about to buy a motorcycle. I plan on buying the the jacket, gloves and helmet to start off. is there anything you guys recommend for these 3 items? ratings, reviews, prices, brands? I don't plan on going cheap if it will save my life.
my main concern is in regards to the helmet. i don't mind spedning 00 for a helmet if someone can justify that it's better than a 0 helmet, besides the fact that it looks better. i don't care what it looks like as long as its the best in the game.

Hi motorcycle community,
I've started to learn motorcycle (2 months Learner license and experience). I got all the gears: Full face helmet, leather jacket, gloves, Kevlar jeans. All except boots.
I'm reluctant to buy boots because they look really chunky. Apart from looking good while on a bike, I don't think they suit any other social situations. Eg. nightclubs, work, etc.
So, how important are wearing proper footwear? Do they improve safety while riding (of cause they do, but by how much)? Are there boots out there that are safe, but don't make me look like I'm trying on batman's boots?

I'm taking the MSF course next week, have read Proficient Motorcycling, will wear full gear including helmet, gloves, armor, etc., and am looking to buy a bike after I get my license. I'm a heavier guy, twenty years old, and want to do it the right way. Follow me? Is a cruiser-style okay? Is 600cc too large for me, given I'm bigger than most guys? I like cruisers and the Honda brand but am not limiting myself to them, and am not looking to spend more than around 00. Would greatly appreciate feedback! Thanks!

im getting my learners permit soon, but before i do i want to do my research into protective gear because obviously motorcycle riding can be dangerous. ive decided i want to buy a yamaha xv250 virago for my first bike,
so i was wondering what the best protective gear to buy would be?
ive looked at many web sites but theres such a big range of gear that i dont know whats better. im mainly after the safest and most comfortable armoured gear (plus something that looks ok as well), money isnt really a big issue as long as the money is well invested. i want to buy every piece of protective gear from my helmet to boots to gloves to pants etc etc. and im after gear that is fairly visible (for obvious reasons).
obviously i'll prob have to go to the motorcycle shop and try on the gear
but i just wanted to get an idea of what types/brands etc of gear i should look at. also any other tips would be great!
thanks in advance

Okay, I am looking into purchasing my first motorcycle. I am going to take the motorcycle safety course before I even buy the bike though but I would like to know what options could be available to me and what opinions more experienced riders have for me. I'm 5'10", 200 lbs. I've always been facinated by bikes but never ridden a motorcycle. LOTS of bicycles (mountain, road, etc) but I don't know if that will make a difference or not. As stated, i'm going to take the course at the beginning of next month and afterwords find a bike. I'm looking at a couple and was wondering what you all though. My thoughts are the CBR600, a FZ6, a Ninja 250 or 500, GS500 or Katana 600. haven't decided on new or used one but thinking used might be better. Do dealerships carry used bikes? What do you all think about these choices? Am I looking where I should be or am I shooting too high. I'd like to keep the price under 00 for the bike and helmet/gloves/jacket to start. Anything else I should consider?

I want a motorcycle really bad, but my mom says no. I am only going to ride my bike in the neighborhood and not on local streets, plus my neighborhood street almost nevr has a car in it. I am going to go like 5mph for a few days to get a feel for it. I promise to only go a maximum of 20mph after i get a feel for it. I also said I will pay for all and that i must buy the equipment(gloves, helmet, forearm pads, knee pads, and elbow pads.) before buying the bike. i must have my cellphone at all times, cant ride unless i have all my safety equipment on, no stupid stunts like wheelies or going off ramps, never go anywhere on it w/o telling her, no one else may ride it except for me. Also my parents are divorced and my dad doesn't care if i get one if i do what i say i am going to do, but my mom says no. On top of that when she doesn't like something she doesn't even let you finish a sentence.

I live in Southern California and am looking for motorcycle gear that I can wear year round.
1) I'm not at all interested in high-priced gear, such as Vanson, Bohn, BMW, etc.
2) Style and protection, alongside comfort are all factors.
3) I'm buying a High Velocity body armor piece for impact protection, so jacket armor isn't a big issue.
4) Not interested in leather.
Thanks..
And if you know of any great sites, let me know..
So far I've totalled up about 0 for body armor, pants, boots, jacket, gloves and helmet.
I'm really on the look out for a nice textile jacket/pants combo I like.
Oh and price.. Price is definitely a factor. I'm even looking in classifieds.
I've narrowed it down to pants and gloves. Textile pants, and armored gloves. I missed out on a pair of joe rocket phoenix pants... Makes me a sad panda. = /

Out of all the times I have enjoyed taking my Suzuki RF 600 on the highway, long road trips are not one of them. Last summer I drove it from Columbus, OH to Western New York (about 300 miles) for free storage at my parents place and the trip was horrible. I have loud exhaust (a yoshi slip on) that vibrates the whole bike plus I am without cruise control. Due to these two factors, my back and @$$ fall asleep after so long and my wrist went numb from both the vibrations and the lack of cruise control. Is there anything I can do to prevent this seeing as I would like to avoid shipping costs and drive it back down to Columbus? Please don't tell me to change my exhaust and buy cruise control. Also, I did suit up last time, I wore gloves, a helmet, and thick clothing. Thank you!
