I ride an old bike, a '79 honda cx500 custom.
Any particular brand of jacket ? I have a helmet, need gloves, jacket, maybe pants, boots...looking for specific suggestions, thx.
I am new to motorcycle riding. I bought a Ninja 250. Got helmet, a jacket, boots and gloves.. I am just a little worried about knee/shin protection. While there are good racing pants available that probably give good protection, it is very expensive and moreover, I cant afford to wear those pants wherever I go. So am looking for affordable(<30$) pads that i can wear under jean. I looked up some pads but they are mostly for off-road dirt biking. Can anyone suggest pads for sport bikes to wear on the road ?
I have a five year old who has a pw50, with training wheels, that he would like to ride. He does not yet have all of the gear for it. I have been told that the power can be turned down to not allow the bike to go over about 5mph. If this is done, and the bike is ridden on flat land only, what gear would be considered absolutely necessary? My husband tells me it is no more dangerous than a power wheels, but I am a nervous mom. He has hand-me-down helmet and goggles, pants, gloves and shoulder/chest pads. I wouldn't have a problem buying him a jersey but those boots seem awfully expensive for a five year old to outgrow within six months!
I am looking to buy a sports bike, motorcycle at the end of the summer, and I am curious, what brands are there other than Kawasaki, honda, suzuki, and yamaha, b/c at Kawa, i found a ninja 250R, and it suited me better, I have 3600$ to spend, and I don't need anything too powerful. Also I am 16 years old, can I use a seperate insurance from my parents? Or must I be under theirs? Also, where is the best place to buy? Straight from Kawasaki, or a dealer of many moto's?
I forgot to mention i will have 3.6k cash, or w/e, so no loan, i will buy on site, if that helps, and im not gonna pop anything crazy. Also, I already have helmet jacket boots, etc.
Okay, so I was wondering, since everyone has told me that if I were to buy a motorcycle, buy it used. (I'll be 18+ by the time I'd get one.) I a bit over a year. LOl okay...i turn 17 in like april. but whatever. i would take the classes for learning. i would use the proper gear such as helmet gloves boots. (i believe in wearing a helmet. i kind of like my brain inside my skull) okay, so i really like the V-Star Classic. But it's a tad bit expensive. plus i have to think of insurance and gear. So if i were to get it used, about how much would i pay? and is used safe?
oh and i would like it to travel to the university. depending on where i live of course.
I just got my first bike, a Kawasaki Ninja 650r. Now my focus is on the gear. Got my helmet when I bought the bike, an Arai Corsair V (only the best for my noggin). My question pertains to jackets, gloves, and most importantly boots. I'm currently going to college full time, but don't live on campus. So I have a 15 minute ride to school, the hitch is I need gear that I can wear for several hours a day off the bike, and still be comfortable. The jacket is easy, as I can wear that all day most days. The gloves I can take off, and put in my backpack. The boots, however, are the real issue. I like Sidi and Alpinestars, but are those full racing boots too much for everyday use? Do those boots go under jeans well? Any and all opinions/suggestions welcome. I prefer leather jackets btw.
Also I was curious what would be an appropriate next bike? I really like all of the liter bikes (CBR1000RR, R1, etc), but are they too much power for a second bike? I can handle the 650r just fine, that's why I chose it, but I'm eventually going to get the upgrade itch in a couple of years I'm sure.
Hi motorcycle community,
I've started to learn motorcycle (2 months Learner license and experience). I got all the gears: Full face helmet, leather jacket, gloves, Kevlar jeans. All except boots.
I'm reluctant to buy boots because they look really chunky. Apart from looking good while on a bike, I don't think they suit any other social situations. Eg. nightclubs, work, etc.
So, how important are wearing proper footwear? Do they improve safety while riding (of cause they do, but by how much)? Are there boots out there that are safe, but don't make me look like I'm trying on batman's boots?
im getting my learners permit soon, but before i do i want to do my research into protective gear because obviously motorcycle riding can be dangerous. ive decided i want to buy a yamaha xv250 virago for my first bike,
so i was wondering what the best protective gear to buy would be?
ive looked at many web sites but theres such a big range of gear that i dont know whats better. im mainly after the safest and most comfortable armoured gear (plus something that looks ok as well), money isnt really a big issue as long as the money is well invested. i want to buy every piece of protective gear from my helmet to boots to gloves to pants etc etc. and im after gear that is fairly visible (for obvious reasons).
obviously i'll prob have to go to the motorcycle shop and try on the gear
but i just wanted to get an idea of what types/brands etc of gear i should look at. also any other tips would be great!
thanks in advance
I live in Southern California and am looking for motorcycle gear that I can wear year round.
1) I'm not at all interested in high-priced gear, such as Vanson, Bohn, BMW, etc.
2) Style and protection, alongside comfort are all factors.
3) I'm buying a High Velocity body armor piece for impact protection, so jacket armor isn't a big issue.
4) Not interested in leather.
Thanks..
And if you know of any great sites, let me know..
So far I've totalled up about 0 for body armor, pants, boots, jacket, gloves and helmet.
I'm really on the look out for a nice textile jacket/pants combo I like.
Oh and price.. Price is definitely a factor. I'm even looking in classifieds.
I've narrowed it down to pants and gloves. Textile pants, and armored gloves. I missed out on a pair of joe rocket phoenix pants... Makes me a sad panda. = /
Hey everyone, I've been doing a lot of research lately, but I'm still not sure what equipment is best to buy for just everyday riding. I'm planning on buying a sv650f this summer, it is my first road bike, but I've ridden dirt bikes all my life so i think I should be okay. I plan on getting decked out with gear...helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, boots. I'm not looking to make it anymore dangerous than it already is. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I also plan on taking the safety course.
I would like to go on a road trip with my boyfriend on our motorcycles and just buy whatever we want and then ship our stuff back home. However, what do I do with all my motorcycle gear, like my boots, my jacket and my helmet while I am shopping? I dont want to carry my stuff plus the items I purchased. But I dont want to leave my helmet outside for fear that it will get stolen. How do you guys go shopping?! Please keep in mind that I only weigh 100 pounds and I cant have much gear on me. Thanks!!
I have little compassion for those that say they cannot afford to insure their children. #1 - don't have children if you can't afford them; then don't expect me to pay for the ones you can't afford. #2 - it doesn't cost that much to insure a child; part of a parents responsibility is to sacrafice for the sake of their children.
Case in point - I have an acquaintance whose parents both worked and they made just above the cut-off for getting government help for insurance. What did they do? They went out and bought 2 brand new motorcycles, helmets, chaps, gloves and boots, so they could take their little darling on wonderful family outings. That money would have went a long way to insuring them, huh?
Am I unreasonable?
artgurrl - you exagerrate...anyone can get a family plan HSA account for much less than 00 a month. No, the best plan that pays for all of the coverage would not be affordable to most, but at least some coverage is better than none or making someone else pay for it?
I need to know a good site to look for and/or purchase gear (helmet, boots, jacket, etc.) from. Anyone got a site they swear by or have had a good experience buying from? Thanks!
I know in Cali you must wear a helmet when riding. But, are there other regulations like certain gloves, a jacket, or boots? So far I plan on riding with a helmet and my street clothes. I might take a jacket, but I want to know if I need to buy one first.
Thanks!
Can any of you bikers out there tell me where I can buy leather leg shields for riding motorcycles? They kind of look like boots, but without the foot part. I have looked on several leather sites on the internet, but still can't find them. Please let me know if you know of a website I can find them. Thanks......
I am not looking for chaps. these come below the knee and above the ankle. They look like boots but don't have the foot part.
How do I chage this to motorcycling category? I didn't chose this category. It came up automatically and so I selected it.
I recently purchased a Kawasaki Ninja and I'm looking to buy a pair of pants, a jacket and some gloves. ( I have boots and helmet )
Any help is greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm a college student... ( used is acceptable )
I wear size medium tee shirts, or large jackets usually in mens.
Pants = 30 waist and 30 length. ( can vary a little )
Tight wadd, Your post was filled with a ton of stuff I didn't ask at all..... I listed the measurements of pants for the sake of if someone had seen a sale, etc online for that size.
If I were to buy used the clothing would have to be Barely used. Just like snowmobiling clothing, people buy all the clothing, the sled, and then decide it's not for them. Hence they only wore the stuff like once or twice.
Thanks for the replies so far!
Okay, it will be about 2 years before I actually buy my motorcycle. BUT I don't want to rush like a few months before I buy it and have to cram all of this information in. I'm going to educate myself as best I can. I'm using this motorcycle to go to college. (fyi, I intend on taking classes before actually buy the motorcycle. A V-STAR CLASSIC)
So, I was wondering what things I would have to buy. Is a jacket necessary? Oh and are there jackets with back protection? I'm not messing around with the helmet. I'm buying the best I can and it's going to be full-face.
I'm not sure about gloves. What do I need them for? And boots...Can I not ride with some sneakers? (I'm actually trying to learn, cause I have no idea.)
Thanks and if you can help me with anything else you think of, I'd highly appreciate it all! ^_^
I plan on buying my first motorcycle in the next 2 months before this winter weather starts showing up. I don't plan on riding it over the winter but just didn't know if anyone had any tips on buying a first used bike. I also was wondering about buying a helmet. I am getting one, I just know its a really important part of it, more important than the actually bike. But idk what i should do, get a used one, go to a helmet store? and should i get gear? like boots or jackets with padding? Thanks i just want to be safe, if anyone has a tip or two i would really appreatiate it.
Well i plan on buying a bike this fall just for cost reasons. Im a junior in high school, working my ass off for a bike and maintaining my truck. I want to get the bike now, so that next march, when i take the riders education, i can have a bike to ride around with my motorcycle permit. so i have no experiance and have never been out of a driveway with a bike. so basically, i could use all the help i need, haha. its just that i havent had the best record with bikes in the family, and want to be able to enjoy it, but while at the same time being safe. because i know im young, but im not stupid. and i know there are a lot of experianced riders out there, so please, whatever you got to say; ill listen.
Oh, and some of the bikes i have been looking at have been 250's. Mostly honda cbr's. the rr's and f3's. but thats just what ive seen, i have no idea whats out there.
anyone know a good website to buy gear?
I'm looking to buy a helmet, boots, and gloves to go with my new bike. I actually take rather large sizes too: about an XL helmet and size 10-11 (28-30 cm) boots. I live in south Ibaraki prefecture, and I can easily get around both in my car and on the train. Can anyone suggest a shop that sells good motorcycle equipment without it costing half the price of my bike?
I'm planning to get a motorcycle. It will be my first time driving one. Lessons will be completed in a week, after which I will be purchasing an '07 Ninja. For riding around town and on the interstate during the late spring, summer, and early fall, what kind of gear should I buy?
I know I need a helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots, but what about pants or a suit?
And what kind should should I buy? What safety certifications and features do I need to look for, and what comfort features are important?
I've tried just looking on Yahoo, but most of the sites that help beginners are designed by online stores trying to sell us 0 racing suits.
What gear do I need, what features do I need that gear to include, and how should I go about buying it?
Thank you!
I'm trying to choose between a couple years old honda civic coupe (approx k) and a couple year old motorcycle (not sure exactly which one yet, but planning on getting a reliable and affordable bike that is a couple years old).
I also will buy a quality helmet, jacket, boots, and gloves.
Is insurance more or less expensive? Also take into consideration gas savings, potential medical bills (hopefully not), etc.
Specifically, how much cheaper is it?
I have been fascinated w/ motorcycles since i was a young kid.I wanted 1 so badly i told my parents i'll get 1 when i became old enough & they just smiled. Now i'm 18, have a job & saved enough money to buy myself one...but they wouldn't allow me to have one. I took The MSF coarse,Passed it w/ flying colors, bought all my safety gear(helmet boots Gloves & Jacket) in advance. They told me that this day will come & they're afraid that i might get hurt or even killed. Dad won't talk to me; Mom was crying. They even offered to co-sign a brand new car, but i told them that i'm set on the bike. And i told them that i'm a safe& responsible rider(even showed them my gear+ my MSF test Results) but they still wouldn't budge.Even my best buddies dropped by to educate them about riding safety; but to no avail. Why are my parents so not fair about this? Please help...I don't know what to do, i never wanted a car or any 4 wheeled vehicle for that matter...just a motorcycle. Thank You & God Bless...
hello i am buying a motorcycle soon and i need gear i want some names of companies that make motorcycle helmets....some that make gloves....some that make jackets...and some that make shoes(boots)...thank you for all your help
I live in Ann Arbor so if anyone is aware of any shops other than harley dealers that sell motorcycle accessories please fill me in.
I just bought my first bike a Triumph Bonneville America and I need the whole lineup of gear, the helmet, the jacket, boots and gloves. I like a lot of the harley apparel but it can be a bit pricey and has the logo all over everything. Any ideas? Thanks!
