Motorcycle won’t start normally…battery is ok and motorcycle will start /w starter fluid, what’s wrong?
I bought a motorcycle used. I test rode it and it started up fine...and the owner had just bought (and installed while I was there) a new battery for it. For the next 2 weeks it ran perfectly.
However, after that one day I started it up and it started up fine and I noticed the engine start to die out and stall randomly while I accelerated in 3rd gear. And when I tried to start it, all I heard was clicking.
I thought "dead battery"...but I checked the connector (all were tight) and then I charged it up off my car and used starter fluid and it started.
Then it ran for a bit, and randomly then died again (crap).
Something is obviously wrong...
What parts do you believe need to be replaced, if any, or is it likely as simple as a dead fuse somewhere?

Unlike the ones that answered prior to me, I tend to think Carburetor problem.
If it starts with starter fluid, then dies out after 1-10 seconds, think about it.
The starter fluid is taking the place of a properly operating carb, making the bike run until the fluid burns up.
It sounds like your bikes charging system is not working!!!
sounds like the stator or voltage regulator may be going bad. do you have a searvice manual for the bike it will tell you how to test both. if the batery is not going dead and the sytem is charging i would look in to fuel system next.
check charging system make sure acid is in battery. then empty tank clean fuel lines and carbs
starter ,alternator voltage regulator or simply a switching relay. but make sure you do not have rust or water in your fuel symptoms are very similar, further you should go to manufactures web site and check the trouble shooting menu
alternator /regulator …what ever is charging the battery is not working
