How to use the VIN to learn the year of a motorcycle?
I may buy a Yamaha motorcycle. I believe the tenth digit in the VIN tells the model year. It is an "A" for the motorcycle. Which year is that? thank you!

If the tenth character is an A, it is either a 1980 or a 2010. It should be obvious from the bike if it is brand spanking new or 30 years old.
A phone call to your local Yamaha Dealer’s Parts Manager may answer your question.

look at the vin, count ten over
the tenth one should be the year. if it says 9, its either a 2009 or a 1999, i think you can tell the difference between new and old generation.
Most Motorcycles have Registration Plates fitted to them by law which tell you the year
of manufacture. Unless it is an off road bike. Then you will need to reference the vin.
