how do i go about getting this motorcycle registered in florida?
i went to the junkyard this past weekend looking for a part for my car but instead i found a motorcycle. the motorcycle has been dropped and basically all the panels need to be replaced there is no engine damage just little things like handle bars. side mirrors. etc.... a friend of mine says if i buy the bike it will not come with a title. so how do i get this registered? he also says if i buy new panels for it then i automatically have new Vin's. which i have never heard of before.

If the bike is good you should pick it up.
Each bikes’ FRAME has a VIN# attached. This is the only VIN# that matters. Buying the bike at a yard may indeed get you a bike with no title but you should be able to use your bill of sale (reciept) and the bike’s VIN# (found near the frame’s neck) to apply for a new title.
Things that may cause you problems:
If the VIN# has been removed
If the bike is reported lost or stolen
If the bike was reported "totaled" In this case you may get whats called a salvage title. The only bummer with that is it may lower your resale value.
The VIN# absolutely does not follow the plastics. This would be like the VIN# on car changing with a new fender.

Tschem is right..the VIN is on the frame, not the panels. The junk yard should have the title when they got the bike. Just make sure that the vin on the title and the vin on the frame match. That could be your only problem. If you can get the vin off the frame, check with your local DMV or possibly the police to get some background on the bike. Stolen, totaled etc. and go from there. If everything looks legit an the bike is decent and worth the money..go for it. But if there is no title, or matching title don’t even consider buying it. If there is a problem with the title, a lien, a total, or stolen etc..don’t buy it.
