motorcycle tires Archives

I want to try one, but I am worried that it will ruin the tire. Just one cant hurt can it?

I am looking online for tires for my son's street motorcycle. I am looking at the Dunlop, which is what is on their now. How do you tell a decent motorcycle tires from a crap one? HIs bike is a Yamaha YZF 600R, if that makes a difference.

I changed my worn 3.00-17 rear exterior tire with a Dunlop Low Profile TT900 series tire having 80/80-17 markings but still used the old rubber interior of 3.00-17. I experienced two flat tires on separate occasions each time I had a backrider with me. Shop guy suggested I use a 2.50-17 rubber interior because the 3.00-17 interior inside the 80/80-17 exterior tire is too big. My question is, what do these numbers on the tires and interiors mean? And do I really have to select a more larger tire for the rear wheel than in the front or could I use the same wheel size for both front the rear of my motorcycle?

So for my man's birthday I wanted to get him new tires for his motorcycle. He will really start riding it alot here soon and I know NOTHING about motorcycles or their parts and pieces. Please tell me....for those of you who are into them. If you had this type of bike, what would be the best tires to get someone for it? Cost is not really an issue, just looking for the best set. Please help and don't make fun of the chick, hahah,

I have a Zongshen GS250, I am looking at getting new tires for it, the tires I have on now are losing tread.

What do I look at to see what will fit etc? The most I know is that its 17".

Thank-you!!

The bike is spec'd with a 140/70-18 in the rear and it seems I am only able to locate tires in the 160/60 size. Will these work on my bike? Also, what would be the difference in riding with a bias-ply tire instead of a radial tire?

I am a firefighter stationed in Iraq right now, I really want a motorcycle to ride when I come home in June...Would anyone wanna trade for a K5 Blazer with a 350 engine, removable top, headers, and new 33" super swamper tires....The blazer is at my home in northern Michigan...thanks

when i started riding it, it felt funny on my turns. i drove it only a few miles total and realized there was a screw in it. the screw is just to the right of the middle part of the tire. all the shops in town aren't going to be open till tuesday and i need it before then. will a regular car plug kit work? is it recommended or should i wait
its a '07 ninja 650r. it only has about 3000 miles on the tire. the tread is still perfect

I have a 98 Honda CBR 600cc F3.
My rear tire has worn off pretty badly, front tire is still looking okay.
However, I have trouble deciding what to replace.
FACTS

Existing Tires
Front: Metzeler 120/70 Sportec M-1
Rear: Metzeler 180/55 ZR17 MeZ4 Steel Radial

Recommended by the owner manual.
Front:120/60 ZR17 (55w) [like Dunlop D204FK]
Rear: 160/60 ZR17 (69W) [like Dunlop D204k]

I noticed the size different between what I have and what it recommended on the owner manual (I bought it with those old tires).
Now I replace, Should I replace with the exact tire of what I am having which is, again, 180/55 ZR17 Metzeler ?
Or go with the owner manual recommended 160/60 ZR17?
Note, I only have money to change the rear tire.

Can some one mind explaining to me what those numbers mean?
My other concern is, since I am changing the rear tire only. Is it bad that my front tire and rear tire are different brand?

i installed a 520 kit on my motorcycle and it just doesn't feel right when i ride around. the bike rides straight but feels like there is drag when i pull in the clutch. could it be the 520 kit playing games with my head or....?
the 520 kit consists of new chain and sprockets. rear disc brake dragging sounds like a possibility.

I have a Harley Davidson Sportster 2005.. I am not sure what the air pressure in the tires should be.

I have a Honda Hornet CB 600 F2 and use it only for occasional rides, approximately 1000 miles annually.

I am concerned about the tires. Although they look as new, they are getting old. For example, the rear tire manufacturing date shows 1704, that is approx April 2004.

After how many years (after manufacturing date) should I replace the tire irrespective of milage?

I have a x8 mini motorcycle and i was wondering if they made a bigger or wider back tire for any of the mini motorcycles. If they do please give me a web site where i can find it.
Thanks.

I have been looking for an air compressor for my motorcycle's tires. The problem that I always find is that all of the tire compressors I see out there need a 12V power outlet.

Does anyone know any compressors that could be re-charged or plug in the wall and do not use the 12V outlet?

I don't have a car so I am looking for something that would work without the 12V power outlet.

Thanks!

I need to change both tire and I'm thinking about doing this myself because I've heard bringing it to a shop isn't cheap.
They are tubeless tires. and I have looked at a few videos on how to do it. the one from rockymountainatvmc.com looked the best to me. I have tire irons and am planning on buying dyna beads to balance.

can anyone tell me the reason why the tires are directional. please only if you KNOW this not just what you think. And if you know anywhere (such as a website) that states this please list it thank you
this wonder boy thinks hes funny. i am asking because im pretty sure i know but i NEED to find out. also i have heard many different reasons

I've always wondered about how a motorcycle and rider would control and survive a tire blowout, cruising on the freeway at 65-75 MPH? Although it is probably an unusual situation, as most riders do a "flight check" prior to a long ride.

A blowout on a four wheel auto is one thing, but with only two tires, I don't even want to think about it. A small leak which could cause the tire to go flat, unnoticed until a flat tire would be another situation of safety

If this has ever happened to any of you riders out there, can you give us the details on the road conditions, type and weight of bike you were riding and what damages occured to you and your bike. Thanks

I usually would go through my honda dealer but they just recently changed owners and have been being a real pain to deal with. does anyone know of a reputable source for cruiser tires, hopefully one that will ship to Alaska for less than an arm, leg, and left nut?
so... the people who said JCW... have you seen what it costs to have them ship to AK? well, i know you don't cuz you woulndt have said it.

and honda and harley are the only dealers in town.

how much does it typically cost for a new muffler on a suzuki gz250 year 2001 and a set of new mid grade tires. thanks a bunch

I have mild dry-rot on the sidewalls (NOT the tread) of my motorcycle tires. It is not to the point where the tires are losing pressure (I've checked them daily for the last month)...

...But I am wondering if there is anything I can put on the tires to prevent the cracks from getting larger or, better yet, fill the existing cracks permanently (IE rubber cement perhaps)?

I am also wondering what the chance of blow-out is for a tire not losing any air pressure...

They place i got my gas scooter from shut down!!
i've looked everywere...it's the rear tire (9x3.50-4)

IF anybody knows a place were i can get a REAR tire please email me or post the site..thanks

The coefficient of static friction between the tires of a motorcycle and the road is µs = 0.46. At a speed of 13 m/s, what is the radius of the tightest unbanked turn that the driver can handle?

answer in m.

Cannot figure this dang question, please help.
