Apply for a lost title have the owner sign it over then put it in your name.
go to mva to get a new one
Go talk to the DMV and ask if they can get you the last owners address, write to him. explain about the bike with a copy of the bill of sale send it register mail. when you get it back it should either be signed, or it will be returned back to sender with a reason, like he doesn’t live there anymore. take that to the DMV then you should be able to file for a title then. states may varry
take the VIN numbers and any other info to your DMV, have them run the info BEFORE you apply for a title, the thing could be stolen… any time I hear of a ‘lost title’ I get wary, a legit owner can easily get a replacement, not so simple for a different owner…
it may be just fine, but be on the safe side…
I had the same problem, so I bought one that needed work and had a title for cheap. I just changed the good parts over to the frame that the title was for, have a good bike, and have lots of extra parts.
