Knobby tires on street bike equals busted a$$.
Dirt tires will not last as long or give the same traction, but Dual purpose bike tires should fit, they are usually designed as street tires capable of off road use.
yes but be careful because the bike is a lot more fatter than the tires. and the tires will not last long. but you can not ride it on the dirt because the bike is to heavy for it
Yes but why unless you are using your kawa as a dirtbike
DUM A$$
For that price, I assume it needs a lot more than tires.
While dual-sport tires seem to be your best option I do not see why you cannot do whatever you want. I have a KLX650 which is a dual sport bike that I run nothing but knobby tires (dualsport knobbies- Kenda 270) on and have done so for years now. The bike itself probably runs just over half it’s time on the road and the rest on dirt/sand trails. I have never had a problem but I am not attempting to corner on those tires the same way I would on my other street bikes. I would check with a dealer and tell them the type of riding you plan on doing and have them reccommend the tires to fit both the bike and the riding needs.
might not fit b/c dirt bikes are skinny
You can do any thing you want. I think it’s ill advised but that’s not your question. Your problem will be in finding a "dirt" tyre that will both fit your street rims and have proper clearance of the frame and fenders. you may have more success with a "dual sport" tyre or even a vintage open tread design like the Dunlop K70. Either will give you a different look. I know you didn’t ask but I just can’t help but express again that "dirt" tyres on this bike might not be a sterling move.
Of course you can. I have been putting dual sport tires on street bikes for years. I know guys who put knobbies on their Sportsters.
The Versys is a relatively light standard with a fair amount of suspension travel and decent ground clearance. It should work at least as well off-pavement as the Suzuki Vstroms, which people knob up all the time. Before the Versys hit the market, dual sport riders were hoping it would be a bit more offroad oriented. As it happened, it is pretty much a street bike, but is still light enough to do some exploratory riding on.
With a pavement oriented DS tire like the pirelli MT90 or Avon Gripster, you can improve your bike’s performance on gravel while giving up very little on the street. With a DOT knobby like the Continental TKC80 or Dunlop D606 you can really hook up on loose stuff and maintain decent road manners.
Finding tires in the right sizes could be a problem, but the Cheng Shin 858 is a 50/50 tire that comes in a wide range of sizes. If you hunt around, I’m sure you can find something that will fit.
Seventy bucks has to be a typo, right?
If you want your bike to look semi-retarded in a midget way, then why yes, you may.
Yes, but be wary of riding on a paved road with them; people underestimate just how unstable turns can be on knobby tires meant for dirt.
street tires are designed for concrete
dirt-bike tires are designed for dirt
technically you can?…just drive slower & more carefully
you could but it would be considerably less stable. try looking into re-treads or used tires.
you can even install certain car tires on motorcycles. they last for 50k miles and only cost 25$
