I don’t think you will have a problem just don’t carry it loaded. Pistols are another matter.
When you are touring by bicycle, you don’t want to carry extra weight that you won’t need. every uneeded item you carry means you have to leave something else behind. Apart from legal issues, a rifle is a lot of dead weight that you don’t need.
Cross state lines with a firearm? I don’t think so unless you have a Federal permit. In addition I would check with the ATF in each state you plan to traverse just to be sure.
In the 1950s JC Higgins (Sears) had a bike with a rifle carrier! Interesting, since one could also buy a "matching" JC Higgins long gun.
Hi
The exact answer to your question lies in your itinerary. In some of the states you will be riding through, you can mount a loaded machine gun on the handle bars. In other states, you must almost weld the gun into slag.
This site will help you in your planning.

Click on each of the states in your route and then pay attention to the section dealing with transporting and possession. Most states in the union will allow you to move the gun across their state if it is unloaded. Some states don’t care if the gun is loaded.
Sorry to say, there is no quick answer to your question.
